What is it?
An electronic meter which can be installed to control the supply of electric to the entire property or to a particular electrical item, for example the air conditioning. It can be manually credited by the owner or landlord as well as by inserting either €1 or €2 coins.
What benefit does it have?
Hot summers, cold winters, property oweners especially were finding tenents not always so careful about turning off appliances when they no longer needed them leaving the owners with huge electricity bills!! Euro meter emerged as a result of trying to find the best way of dealing with this.
It protects the owners of the property or landlords against misuse or excessive use of electrical items.
It also helps domestic users to budget for their monthly bills and for tenants to be aware of exactly how much their useage is so there can be no disputes over electricity bills with the landlord.
For holiday rentals whether you are an agent or owner, it allows you the flexibility of offering rental rates either inclusive or exclusive of electric.
Low season - during winter months when rates are low you can offer a competative rate or lower rate and exclude the electric from the price - the client can pay an amount on arrival which can be credited to the meter, if they use more they simply pay as they go, should they use less than the initial payment the meter will display any credit remaining and you can reimburse them without the need for meter readings and final bills. Easy!
Peak season - during summer months you can allocate a resonable amount of electric to be credited on the meter per rental week, this way excessive usage is paid for by the client not you!

Alternatively the unit can be installed onto the air conditioning alone and you can control the use of this appliance as you see fit. This meter can also be set as a timer rather then consumption which is ideal for Internet Cafes and snooker tables etc.
How does it work?
Consumption is monitored electronically and installed under strict software control. The information is displayed by LCD.
Credit is added by inserting either €1 or €2 coins. This meter does have two separate slots to prevent problems if a coin becomes lodged so that the meter can be operated until a service engineer is called. Significant testing has been undertaken to ensure a reliable and efficient meter has been produced. Credit is displayed on the unit so that the user can see at all times the remaining credit. When the credit falls to zero the electricity supply is stopped until further coins are inserted. It is tamper proof in so much as it records not only the total units of electricity used but also registers every coin inserted meaning no chance of tampering. The owners will have access to the meter so that for their own use they will be able to over ride the coin slots and add credit or remove credit manually.
These meters can be programmed for regional rates of electricity and can, in some cases, be programmed for individual needs. Each meter can take upto 100amps with the normal home only using upto 40amps, so in most cases one meter will control the entire property
